Platynini is a widespread tribe of carabids in South America, having the largest diversity of species in the tropical highlands of Andes. In Argentina and Chile, most of the platinine species are distributed in extra-Andean regions. Several specimens of platynine have been found in samples from the Precordillera and the Andes in Mendoza (Argentina). The study of these materials revealed two new species, whose characters justify the creation of a new genus, Austroglyptolenus gen. nov. The presence of a protibial dorsal carena and the base of median lobe sclerotized related Austroglyptolenus nov. gen. with the genera Glyptolenus Bates and Glyptolenoides Perrault, and differs from them in the shape of metatarsomeres, internal sac of aedeagus without tooth, and female genital track with spiculae. These characters show that the species of Austroglyptolenus, A. mendozensis sp. nov. and A precordillerae sp. nov. are related to these platynines genera from tropical Andes and not to the austral species from Argentina and Chile. In this contribution, descriptions of the new genus and species, and drawings and keys for their identification are provided.
