ABSTRACT.  The genus Prochoerodes Grote, with the species Prochoerodes onustaria (Hübner), Prochoerodes tetragonata (Guenée) and Prochoerodes flexilinea (Warren), is here recorded for the first time for the Argentinean fauna.The genus is redefined on the basis of characters of external morphology and genital structures of both sexes. Their species are redescribed and illustrated, and a key for the identification of species is provided. The monophyly of Prochoerodes is postulated on the basis of four possible synapomorphies: (1) a pair of triangular processes covered with spines in the distal region of the aedeagus, (2) ductus bursae dorsally grooved with different grades of depth, (3) an oval plate furrowed by transverse strations at level of the antrum, and (4) a horn-shaped signum. Comments are made on the phylogenetic relationships of Prochoerodes with the remaining neotropical genera of Ourapterygini.
