Resumen
CHAME-VAZQUEZ, Eduardo Rafael; SANCHEZ-HERNANDEZ, Gibrán y ESTRADA-MARROQUIN, María Dina. Contribution to the knowledge of the family Neriidae (Diptera) in Chiapas, Mexico: new records and potential use of geometric morphometric. Rev. Soc. Entomol. Argent. [online]. 2022, vol.81, n.2, pp.1-10. Epub 14-Mar-2022. ISSN 0373-5680.
Insects of the family Neriidae deposited in the Insect Collection of “El Colegio de la Frontera Sur” (Tapachula, México) were revised. Taxonomic revision of 322 specimens provided distributional information about four genera and six species for the state of Chiapas (México). Glyphidops flavifrons (Bigot), Nerius pilifer Fabricius, Nerius plurivittatus Bigot and Odontoloxozus longicornis (Coquillet) are new state records, while Cerantichir enderleini Henning and Glyphidops filosus (Fabricius) are recorded for the first time in Mexico. In order to evaluate species delimitation in Neriidae, 14 landmarks of wing of G. filosus and G. flavifrons were analized with geometric morphometrics. We found significant differences in wing size and wing shape, with evidence of alometric effect. The results suggest that wing morphometrics is a suitable tool in the discrimination of neriid species.
