Resumen

TORTEROLA, Emiliano. Modernity and Sociology in the "North" and "South" of America. A simultaneous approach to the first Chicago’s School and argentine positivism (1900-1920). Trab. soc. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.39, pp.81-103.  Epub 01-Jul-2022. ISSN 1514-6871.

Frequently, the studies of american’s sociologies of the early twentieth century privileged the analysis of the intellectual relations that, in the "north" and "south" of the continent, were established with modern european social theories. Especially those “imported” from France, Germany and England. To the present, on the other hand, there have been few explorations that have made an effort to establish dialogues, for example, between Argentine and American sociology at the first decades of the 20th century. Using the simultaneous approach, the present work aims to establish original associations between “key texts” from the institutionalizing period of the Chicago’s School and Argentine positivism. This comparison between the disciplinary "north" and the "south" is not arbitrary, but lies in the identification and problematization of a web of scientifically, socially and politically relevant phenomena, such as mass migration, intercivilizational contact and assimilation of the "communities", "races" or "crowds" to metropolis in rapid and permanent growth. Furthermore, the points of contact were not limited to the construction of certain objects of study. Suggestively, they extended to issues such as the definition of the science model, the determination of the theoretical frameworks used for social study, and the political and ideological positions assumed.

Palabras clave : American Sociology; Chicago’s School; Argentina; Positivism; Simultaneity; Metropoly.
