Resumen

PIVA, Adrián. The transformations in contemporary capitalism and challenges for workers’ collective action. The Argentine case (1989 - 2019). Trab. soc. [online]. 2024, vol.25, n.42, pp.249-275.  Epub 01-Ene-2024. ISSN 1514-6871.

In this article, first of all, we propose to present a series of hypotheses on the impact of the transformations of contemporary capitalism on the structure of the exploitative relationship and on the composition of the labor force. These transformations have created dilemmas both for the stabilization of political domination (erosion of state’s capacity for political integration), which has been particularly evident with the crisis of neoliberalism, and for workers' mobilization and organization.

Secondly, we will present some conclusions for the Argentine case from the 1990s. This case will provide a view of these transformations from the periphery and, especially, it will allow us to clarify their impact on the mobilization and organization of the working class by incorporating into the analysis the resources provided by the shared traditions of social struggle and organization. At the same time, in Argentina, these traditions have a double character: as a resource for mobilization and as a means of institutionalization and control of the conflict, wich places them at the center of the symmetrically opposed problems that current capitalism poses to political domination and popular insubordination.

Palabras clave : contemporary capitalism; class composition; mobilization; collective action; Argentina.
