This article analyzes, from an agronomic point of view, the contents of the approaches of vine growers and experts in Uruguay for the period 1872-1900, included in the Journal of the Uruguayan Rural Association. The contents are organized according to parameters of management of the vine in the vineyard. It outlines the importance of the first actors in the organization of the early national viticulture -producers belonging to a corporate elite of immigrants- by adapting their prior knowledge based on experimentation processes. The role performed by the Uruguayan Rural Association in this stage is investigated.
