Resumen

VIGLIANCO, A.I.; NOVO, R.J.; CRAGNOLINI, C.I.  y  NASSETTA, M.. Biological activity of crude extracts of Larrea divaricata Cav. and Capparis atamisquea Kuntze on Sitophilus oryzae (L.). Agriscientia [online]. 2006, vol.23, n.2, pp.83-89. ISSN 1668-298X.

Repellent and antifeedant properties of crude extracts of two plants widely distributed in the province of Córdoba (Argentina), jarilla (Larrea divaricata Cav.) and atamisqui (Capparis atamisquea Kuntze) on Sitophilus oryzae were studied. Crude extracts in ethanol, chloroform and hexane of both species were evaluated. The Total Deterrence Coefficient for each extract was determined. Repellence tests were conducted using filter paper separated in halves. Repellence percentages were determined for each extract. A greater antifeedant effect was observed in the atamisqui extracts than in the jarilla ones; the effect was also greater in extracts of leaves or twigs than in extracts of fruits. The extracts with the highest antifeedant effect were the ethanol extract of stem (class ++++) and the ethanol and chloroform extracts of atamisqui leaves (class +++). A moderate repellence effect of jarilla and atamisqui extracts on S. oryzae was observed; the hexane extract of atamisqui leaves stood out as the one of greatest repellence (class IV). The chloroform extract of atamisqui leaves, the three extracts of jarilla leaves, the chloroform extracts of jarilla twigs and fruits had repellence effect too (class III).

Palabras clave : Crude extracts; repellency; antifeedant; Larrea divaricata; Capparis atamisquea; Sitophilus oryzae.
