Resumen

GAGO, Sebastián Horacio. La lectura de Oesterheld antes y después del retorno democrático. Trama comun. [online]. 2015, vol.19, n.1, pp.131-149. ISSN 1668-5628.

The purpose of this article is to expose specific results of an academic research on comics consumption. We study the reception of Héctor Germán Oestherld’s comics, especially his first production period in which El Eternauta stands out above the rest.      We study the processes in which the meaning is produced by the readers. We relate their readings with several factors: the reader and its life history, environment and circumstances (belonging to different generations, individual cultural life, the changes in the comics production, beyond a national editorial field in particular). Also, we propose two conclusions based on some working hypotheses and the subsequent analytical and interpretive work research: a) The readings of El Eternauta show signs of certain condition related to current hegemonic discourses about Oesterheld and his work, not only in the new generations of readers but also in old readers. b) Our analysis suggests that there is a close relationship between the process of canonization and consecration of Oesterheld and a significant presence of senses related with the current political and social reality, manifested in the consumption of their most recognized comic.
