VILLEGAS, Sagrario Garay  y  RUEDA, María Concepción Arroyo. Elderly care on the political agenda in Latin America and the Caribbean. Astrolabio [online]. 2022, n.28, pp.11-20. ISSN 1668-7515.

The view of aging from a rights perspective has as its background the Second World Assembly on Aging from which the International Plan of Action in Aging in Madrid was derived, which has been a key follow-up document at the regional intergovernmental and non-governmental meetings on Aging in the Latin American region. In addition, there are two key documents to consider in the region's ageing policies: the Montevideo Consensus and the Inter-American Convention for the Protection of the Rights of Older Persons. All these documents address the following priority areas: the economic situation of older persons; health and well-being; and favorable social and physical environments. This article aims to discuss what is the treatment of caring in the various regional meetings, which is inserted in the area on health and well-being; in addition to discussing how the various guidelines on care have been translated into Mexico's regulations.

Palabras clave : regional conferences of aging; care; policies to older people; laws in Mexico.
