Resumen
YANGILEVICH, Melina. Violence, Convites, and Spirits in the Buenos Aires countryside, second half of the XIXth Century. Andes [online]. 2007, n.18, pp.233-250. ISSN 1668-8090.
The intention of this work is to analyze the practice of convite and its relation with drunkenness and the incidence of violence situations. The analysis is centered in the Buenos Aires's countryside during the second half of the XIXth century. To this end the work considers some proceedings brought before the court justice. The hypothesis is that drinking was a collective practice and that the social norms determined the behaviour expected. The convite, as a practice, articulated the social relations of those who decided to participate -or not- in it. The differences of what the aceptance or refusal meant generated more violence situations than the excessive consumption - or not -of spirits.
