Resumen
KOPELOVICH, Pablo. (Soccer as a practice of exaltation of masculinities. The case of a secondary school in middle class sectors in the province of Buenos Aires - Argentina). Cuad. Fac. Humanid. Cienc. Soc., Univ. Nac. Jujuy [online]. 2019, n.55, pp.65-84. ISSN 1668-8104.
In this article we propose to analyze the practice of soccer as a key for the reconstruction of masculinities in the Physical Education lessons, in a middle-class secondary school in the province of Buenos Aires (Argentina). We wonder how the practice of this sport contribute to the transition of certain right and wrong ways to be male. We opted for a qualitative methodology or non-standard and for a study case. The research techniques used are participant observation, in-depth semi-structured interviews and documents analysis. We have found that teachers in the Physical Education lessons transmit certain right and wrong ways to be male by means of language the use. The students themselves, also contribute to this process. Thus, heteronormativity is perceived, the use of offensive language (reproducing certain values historically attributed to men) and the derogatory comparison with women. We reach to the conclusion that sports, soccer in this case, can be thought as male initiation ritual
