Resumen

GONZALEZ, J; FERNANDEZ, J. R; SANTANATOGLIA, O. J  y  DEL PARDO, C. Desarrollo radical en plantas de duraznero sometidas a diferentes manejos del suelo. RIA. Rev. investig. agropecu. [online]. 2012, vol.38, n.3, pp.276-281. ISSN 1669-2314.

The objectives of this work were to evaluate the effect of three soil management systems and soil texture on root system growth and trunk diameter of Dixiland peaches grown in an Argiudol vértico, Ramallo Series soil in Northern Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Three soil management systems were tested: mechanical tilling, no tilling with chemical weed control and plant coverage. Horizontal and vertical root distribution was evaluated by determining the number of roots by the “trench” method. Apparent density was determined by the cylinder method. Texture of soil horizons was determined up to 75 cm deep, and trunk diameter was measured. The results showed that both mechanical tilling and no tilling with chemical weed control were associated to a higher trunk diameter and root system development in the first 40 cm of soil, as compared to the plant coverage system. Mechanical tilling and plant coverage restrained superficial root development, while root indepth development was associated to soil texture.
