The article seeks to problematize a recurrent situation and not always discussed in the writings that rely on Foucault to analyze the processes of subjectivation in Latin America. The approaches analyzed by Foucault, were made in, and for an European reality, or specifically to the French case. This article presents three ideas as notes to analyze and open the debate on this situation. First, it is discussed the thought of Foucault in general terms. Second, it is discussed whether or not they are applicable concepts such as power, discipline, biopower, in Latin American continent. Finally, it is seen what are the scope and disadvantages of watching Latin America from the French author’s conceptions.
