Resumen

LLANO, E.G et al. Diferencias morfológicas microscópicas entre el nervio isquiático y el tronco simpático torácico en el perro. Rev. vet. [online]. 2013, vol.24, n.2, pp.148-150. ISSN 1669-6840.

The objective of this study was to compare the microscopic structures that constitute the sciatic nerve and sympathetic trunk, to verify the integration and connection of the autonomic nervous system in the spinal nerves of the dog. Sixteen sciatic nerve transverse cuts and 8 transverse cuts of the thoracic portion of the sympathetic trunk were used, processed according to the classical histological technique, taking into account the diameter of the nerve fibers, endoneurium characteristics, number and shape of Schwann cells, using an image analyzer software. The sympathetic trunk nerve fibers had an average diameter with a uniform thickness of 3 µm and abundant connective tissue. Also, it was observed a greater number of nuclei corresponding to fibroblasts and Schwann cells. In the sciatic nerve the nerve fibers had an average diameter of 7 µm, separated by scarce connective tissue. They showed smaller number of nuclei from fibroblasts and Schwann cells. The interpretation of morphological findings confrm the presence and connection of the autonomic nervous system (sympathetic component) in spinal nerve trunks (sciatic nerve), at a higher rate to that cited in the literature (15%), indicating the need of more specific studies to corroborate such findings.
