ICASSATTI CORAZZA, Rosana; FRACALANZA, Paulo Sérgio y MACHADO BONACELLI, Maria Beatriz. Visions of shortage: an interpretation of the debate between natural scientists and economists in the rebirth of environmentalism. Rev. iberoam. cienc. tecnol. soc. [online]. 2015, vol.10, n.29, pp.91-127. ISSN 1850-0013.
The period that begins at the end of the 1960s and extends itself during the 1970s is what historians and experts on the environmental movement have called the Rebirth of Environmentalism. During that period, a new discussion on shortage became the thematic focus of debates between natural scientists, mainly biologists from renowned American universities, and economists from different theoretical backgrounds. Within that context, economists, who drew attention to the recovery of previously developed concepts and theories, brought their contributions to the scene, but also raised radically new perspectives to understand the relations between the economy and the natural world. In this paper we intend to recover the context of that debate, and present an interpretation of selected contributions within the interdisciplinary issue of shortage.
