Resumen
FUGASSA, Martín H.. Camelids, parasites, and human settlements: paleoparasitological report from Cerro Casa de Piedra 7 (Perito Moreno National Park, Santa Cruz province, argentina). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2007, n.8, pp.265-269. ISSN 1850-373X.
Camelid coprolites belonging to levels dated to ca. 8000 14C years BP were examined. Eggs of Capillaria sp., ascaridids (probably Nematodirus sp. or Lamanema sp.), and oocysts attributable to Eimeria macusaniensis were found through conventional paleoparasitological techniques. The presence of this specific coccidian allowed an improved diagnosis of the zoological origin of the coprolites. These are the first paleoparasitological results from camelids in Argentina and they contribute new evidence of the exposure of human populations to zoonoses and the early biogeography of parasites.
