Resumen
WYNVELDT, Federico. Belén Ceramic Technology: Macroscopic Characterization And Conceptualization In Pottery Manufacture. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2008, n.9, pp.157-172. ISSN 1850-373X.
Macroscopic technological aspects of two Belén vessel assemblages from the Hualfín Valley (Catamarca Province) are analyzed: the pottery from the domestic contexts from Loma de los Antiguos, Azampay, and the Muñiz Barreto Collection of funerary pots from Azampay, Yacoutula, La Aguada, and other localities from the Museum of La Plata. Analysis of the manufacturing marks enabled the construction techniques used in the formation of the pieces to be identified and, therefore, the cognitive conceptualizations involved in pottery production were able to be investigated. This research complements previous morphometric studies and pastes analysis. As such, a complete characterization of Belén ceramics is advanced, employing specific and explicit ceramic methodologies. The identification of distinct cognitive conceptualizations in ceramic manufacture, added to other aspects of the archaeological record such as absolute chronology, architectonic evidence, and funerary goods, lends support to the existence of a context of diversity in terms of the relations between local Belén groups and the Inca conquerors.
