This article describes and analyzes heritagization processes in relation to the industrial and mining legacy in three cases: the Museum Mine Blanzy in France; the Rio Tinto Mining Park, Spain; and the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá, Colombia. These three cases reveal the motivations and shape of such processes of heritage production; that is, the path each has followed from discovery to display, eventually acquiring additional symbolic value, whether institutionally recognized or not. These cases demonstrate the relevance of context and the configuration of actors, actions, synergies, and conflicts that shape heritage activation plans. The cases also illustrate the functions currently performed by this form of heritage.
