Resumen

MORENO, Enrique; EGEA, Débora  y  CLAUSS, Samira. Estudio experimental de talla en cuarzo: técnicas de reducción y elecciones tecnológicas en el caso de la sierra de El Alto-Ancasti (Catamarca). Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.1, pp.117-128. ISSN 1850-373X.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.37176/iea.23.1.2022.669.

The lithic reduction sequence of quartz as a raw material is difficult to control due to its technological characteristics. Similarly, uncertainty exists in the identification of diagnostic features that provide information on production sequences and knapping strategies. Consequently, to better understand the behavior of this mineral under percussion, an experimental study emphasizing different knapping techniques and their

results was carried out. Data obtained from experimental tests carried out on 27 quartz nuclei worked by freehand, bipolar, and anvil percussion are presented and the results compared with archaeological lithic assemblages from four sites from El Alto-Ancasti mountain range, Catamarca, dated to the second half of the first millennium AD. The goals are to contribute to the identification of diagnostic features and to complement technological analyses of lithic assemblies. As such, the study aims to better understand

percussion and other techniques designed to produce different results in the preparation of tools and to reflect on technological choices and knowledge.
