Resumen

PANDIANI, Cynthia Daniela. Posibles complicaciones asociadas a fracturas óseas: evidencias en restos humanos de Patagonia Austral del Holoceno medio y tardío. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2022, vol.23, suppl.1, pp.109-124. ISSN 1850-373X.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.37176/iea.23.especial1.2022.739.

Bone trauma is frequently found in human skeletal remains. Research on traumatic injuries has placed greater emphasis on evaluating their relationship with social aspects. However, studies on pathological complications caused by trauma, specifically fractures, are less frequent. The types of complications can be: associated infectious processes, defective or misaligned fracture joints, presence of pseudo-articulation, and traumatic myositis ossificans. The objective of this work is to present and discuss the possible interpretations of complications associated with bone trauma, arising from the analysis of skeletal samples from Southern Patagonia from the middle and late Holocene (n = 147). The presence, characteristics and anatomical location of bone traumas and fractures were evaluated, the presence of complications and their possible consequences were determined. The results indicate that 22 individuals presented trauma (14,9%), of which six skeletons (27,3%; 6/22) show evidence of possible complications of bone fractures. Individuals with misaligned fractures, joint deformation, pseudo-articulation and associated infections were evidenced, each of them involved with possible consequences and limitations in movement capacity.
