Resumen

DEKMAK, Wendy. Análisis comparativo del carácter de las ocupaciones indígenas en dos sitios de Paso Roballos (Patagonia centro-meridional) durante el Holoceno. Intersecciones antropol. [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.2, pp.221-236. ISSN 1850-373X.  http://dx.doi.org/https://doi.org/10.37176/iea.24.2.2023.819.

In South-central Patagonia, the Paso Roballos subarea bears witness to the continuity of indigenous occupation over 7500 years. In this paper, the occupations of two close-lying rock shelters, each with about ten occupations and coeval dates from the period, are studied to explore the relationships between them and to deepen knowledge of the use of space and the occupational persistence of the groups that inhabited this region. Lithic resource selection and manufacture in contemporary occupations were analyzed comparatively. Contrary to our expectations, results reveal that the occupations at each site were of different character and that, despite some variations, such differences were maintained over time. The continuity of practices at each site and the differences between them are interpreted as evidence of the transmission of specific knowledge across generations by the inhabitants of this region in the long term, which probably also contributed to the occupational persistence in the Paso Roballos subarea.
