Resumen

OCAMPO, Amanda Eva. ON HISTORICAL SITES IN URBAN CONTEXTS. THE CASE OF OLD REDUCTION "NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LA CONCEPCIÓN DE IBITIRACUÁ" (CONCEPCIÓN DE LA SIERRA, MISIONES, ARGENTINA). NEW ADVANCES AND STUDY APPROACHES. Comechingonia [online]. 2023, vol.27, n.1, pp.61-70. ISSN 1851-0027.

In the context of South American territories where there were missionsfounded by Jesuits (1609-1768) and in coexistence with indigenous groups, many of them were part of an occupational continuity, through reconstructions and different process of reutilization over time. At present, the province of Misiones has multiple archaeological sites with these characteristics, located in municipalities and towns of the region. This paper presents part of the results of the research project called "Archaeological rescues as elements of heritage activation in urban sites" carried out as a result of a postdoctoral fellowship from CONICET. From the archaeological research, we present the excavation works and some of the most relevant findings of the site of the reduction of "Nuestra Señora de la Limpia Concepción de Ibitiracuá" or Concepción, founded in 1619. In addition to explaining the proposed work methodology, emphasis is also placed on the challenge of excavating in humid and tropical soils, which also have different processes of site formation in an anthropic way, and with both material and spatial reuse.
