QUIROGA, Susana y CRYAN, Glenda. Personality disorders in parents of violent adolescents diagnosed with oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder. Anu. investig. [online]. 2009, vol.16, pp.85-94. ISSN 1851-1686.
One of the main objectives of the UBACyT P049 2008-2010 Project is to carry out the research on the parental functions of the parents and/or adults who are responsible for adolescents with antisocial or self-destructive behaviour. This implies carrying out a diagnosis which comprises the symptomatologic and structural aspect of these adults' personality as well as their capacity of psychic change through process and outcome analysis of the Focused Therapy Group for Parents -FTGP- which are done in parallel with the adolescent groups. This study focuses on the diagnosis of the personality organization of the parents of violent adolescents who have been diagnosed with a Oppositional Defiant Disorder and a Conduct Disorder. The Inventory of Personality Organization - IPO (Clarkin, J.; Foelsch, P. y Kernberg, O., 2001; Argentine Adaptation: Quiroga, 2003) was used with a sample of 60 parents (52 mothers and 8 fathers) of early violent adolescents. The preliminary results show that most of the parents get scores which are higher that the cut-off point established in the non-clinical population in the first three primary IPO scales (Primitive Defenses, Identity Diffusion and Reality Testing).
