The conceptual distinction madness-psychosis has not been object of systematic elaboration in psychoanalysis field. Until Jacques Lacan, who has examined it with diverse conceptual resources, the psychoanalysts have been taken them as synonyms. However, some few authors have advanced in the way of a distinction. This article aims analyze some of them with a double goal: first one, to identify and refine this psychoanalytic background to verify coincidence or not with the Lacan working and, consequently, be able to appreciate with greater precision the conceptual originality introduced by him; and, secondly, and essentially, answer the clinical problem introduced by the "early" Freud, when affirms that can be found defense psychoses whose can episodically interrupt a neurosis trajectory. Problem that try to be solved by some psychoanalysis theoreticians with concepts as "case borderline" or states limits, that from the lacanian theory point of view they are not enough.

Palabras clave : Madness; Psychosis; Borderline; States limits.
