Resumen
NESIS, Florencia. El Camino de Paikín: un acercamiento a los grupos mocoví del Chaco a través del tratado de 1774. Avá [online]. 2008, n.13, pp.1-1. ISSN 1851-1694.
In 1774, in a program that tended to make peace with the Chaco aboriginal groups, a meeting was held between Jerónimo Matorras, governor of Tucumán, and Paikín, mocoví leader. This meeting, that took place inside the indigenous territory, gave rise to a treaty that looked to regulate different aspects of the interethnic relationships. The diffusion of this treaty in several compilation publications since the beginning of the XX century helped to create a concept of the colonial political and territorial domain over the indigenous groups. In this paper we propose to rethink the 1774 treaty putting it in relation with other documents that were also made on the basis of these negotiations. Through this analysis, we expect to delve into the political strategy, the change in the relationships of friendship and enmity between the indigenous groups and different colonial agents, and the action possibilities of each one.
