This paper is part of a research that deals with the relationship between families and schools concerning the education of children from an ethnographic approach. I present a "thick description" of a debate that took place in a school of Buenos Aires, about the new National Law of Education. I focus on discussions between teachers and their answers to the government's proposal of participation. Finally, I interpret different meanings and practices related to "participation".
