This article presents a conceptual overview of the quality of health care. It proposes different alternatives to the traditional vision of this concept that focuses on an administrative and managerial perspective. The complexity and multidimensionality of the quality of care are highlighted, while various approaches are analyzed that allow progress in a sociological reflection with the aim of overcoming the dominant management and efficiency perspective. This implies reviewing issues that make the possibility of exercising rights, their appropriation, their promotion, omission or violation from institutional spaces, and broadening the analysis scenario from the framework of citizenship. Thus, the final equation accounts for the interdependence of three elements that are strengthened and turn out to be mutually determining factors: citizenship, health and quality care.
