FRANCK COLOMBRES, Federico J. et al. Combustion of vinasse with cellulosic materials in bagasse boilers. Rev. ind. agric. Tucumán [online]. 2016, vol.93, n.1, pp.9-18. ISSN 1851-3018.
A preliminar theoretical analysis was made to determine the amount and concentration of vinasse that a bagasse boiler (of the same type as conventionally used in the sugar industry in Tucumán) would require to produce the same amount of steam as that generated by a boiler run on bagasse only. As fuel, vinasse burnt in combination with crop harvest residues (RAC) and bagasse was considered, both in cases where the boiler worked without a bagasse dryer or with it. This theoretical study showed that mixtures with different proportions of raw or concentrated vinasse, RAC and wet or pre-dried bagasse could be employed in bagasse boilers, with the benefits of vinasse disposal and saving significant bagasse amounts. Furthermore, a mixture of 11º Bx vinasse, pre-dried bagasse and RAC was tested preliminarly by burning in a conventional bagasse boiler with a bagasse dryer. Stable combustion was achieved with a ratio of 75% wet bagasse, 14% RAC and 11% vinasse, and a 25% bagasse saving was attained over a boiler lacking a bagasse dryer and running only on wet bagasse. Moreover, a 28% of vinasse produced by the distillery was used.
