Resumen

CAUCHARD, L.; SBRANCIA, R.; MEDINA, A.  y  RABINO, A.. Prosopis caldenia (Burk) Total Volume Functions, Argentina. Quebracho (Santiago del Estero) [online]. 2009, vol.17, n.1, pp.41-51. ISSN 1851-3026.

As an outcome from the 1st National Inventory of Native Forests - Espinal Region, the first volume table for Prosopis caldenia - calden, was build up. Up to nowadays there are no records on equations or volume tables for this species with multiple stems morphology; because of this the work is considered original. The aim of this work was to develop a local and a standard total volume equation up to 5 cm diameter at the end point, outside the bark, so they can fit to the great stem variability of calden. Each tree was felled down, cut into logs and measured using Smalian formula to get its total volume outside the bark in cubic meters. Two different trends were developed. The first one relating each individual basal area (g) with the volume that was contained in that tree or stem (v); and the second one relating the accumulative basal area (ga) of the stems of a tree with it's accumulative volume (va). The developed models were adjusted by simple and multiple linear regression methods. Within the lasts ones polynomial and forward stepwise methods were tested. Due to the good relationship found between ga and va, we desisted from the models that use g and v. The relationship between ga and va is almost linear. Both adjusted models had shown good aptitudes to predict total volume for calden trees. The use of height slightly improves estimates.
