Resumen

TORRES, C. G.; CANIZA, F. J.; APARICIO, J. L.  y  MARTIARENA, R. A.. Sylvicultural treatments effects on forest variables of Pinus elliottii var. elliottii × Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis. Quebracho (Santiago del Estero) [online]. 2017, vol.25, n.1, pp.16-27. ISSN 0328-0543.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of thinning and pruning related to temporal behavior of dasometric variables in plantations originated from F2 hybrid pine (Pinus elliottii var. elliottii x Pinus caribaea var. hondurensis). The test was established on a plot of 55 month F2 hybrid pine, with an initial density of 942 trees.ha-1, performed on a Psamacuente spódico (entysol) soil type. The thinning intensities were: 0 % (R1), 23 % (R2), 40 % (R3) and 64 % (R4) from the initial density. Pruning intensities were: 40 % (P1), 50 % (P2) and 60 % (P3) of each tree height. Repeated measurement analysis was performed to evaluate the mean quadratic diameter (dg), basal area (G) and total volume with bark (V) of each individual. The effects of the sylvicultural practices (pruning and thinning) were independent to each other, although the effect of thinning was significant and showed differences increasing temporarily. High thinning intensities resulted in higher dg though those of G and V were lower. The intensity of pruning did not affect production but it did affect dg values inversely which decreased over time. The results demonstrate that sylvicultural practices can be applied regardless the level evaluated.

Palabras clave : Sylvicultural practices; Dasometric variables.
