Phyton (B. Aires) [online]. 2004, vol.73, pp.91-102. ISSN 1851-5657.

To try out alternatives to methyl-bromide:chloropicrin (MBC) in soil fumigation for strawberry production, we applied dazomet, trichloro-isocianuric acid (TCIC), and two bacterial isolates (Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas corrugata) with biocontrol capacity against strawberry pathogenic fungus. Strawberry plants of the Seascape variety were growed using plastic mulch and drip irrigation. The fumigation treatments were BMC (500 kg ha-1, dazomet (300 kg ha-1) and TCIC (110 kg ha-1). The bacteria were injected by the drip line avoiding the crossed contamination and verifying their recovery of the soil. For all the indicative variables of vigorous plant growth dazomet surpassed significantly BMC. The test treatment, TCIC and the bacterial treatments showed the lowest averages. Dazomet produced 97 % more fruits than the control, while the BMC produced 72 % more. CO2 assimilation and the petiole fresh-extract refractometric index exhibited the highest values in TCIC and dazomet treatments, while BMC and bacteria were not different to the test. We concluded that dazomet is a soil fumigation alternative that could substitute BMC in strawberry production under the same conditions.

Palabras clave : Bacillus subtilis; dazomet; Fragaria x anannassa; methyl bromide; trichloro-isocianuric; Pseudomonas corrugata; soil fumigation.
