SOTOMAYOR CASTELLANOS, Javier Ramón. Density, ultrasound speed and modulus of elasticity of Pinus douglasiana wood related to its moisture content. Rev. cienc. tecnol. [online]. 2015, n.23, pp.25-30. ISSN 1851-7587.
Pinus douglasiana Martinez wood was experimentally investigated during a drying process in which the moisture content of the wood was reduced from natural state to anhydrous state. For 48 moisture contents, the wood density and the ultrasound speed were measured and the modulus of elasticity was calculated. Wood coefficients of higroelasticity were determined using correlations between the modulus of elasticity and the moisture content. For a wood moisture content of 12%, the density was 521 kg/m3, the ultrasound speed was 6487 m/s and the corresponding modulus of elasticity was 21.96 GPa. For the low-moisture zone, the coefficient of higroelasticity was -0.09 GPa/%, and 0.30 GPa/% for the higroelastic zone.
