Resumen
ZUBILLAGA, Carina. Spatial Categories and Hierarchical Dichotomies in the Definition of the Female Sanctity of Mary of Egypt. Scripta Mediaevalia [online]. 2018, vol.11, n.1, pp.97-115. ISSN 1851-8753.
In the Vida de Santa María Egipciaca, a Spanish poem from the first half of the 13th century present in the 14th century Escorial MS K-III-4, the spatial categories exterior-interior, margin-center, low-high allow us to explain the female sanctity of the period as a social practice. This is possible by studying Mary of Egypt as a paradigm of repentant prostitutes. In the present article, the community spaces of the temple and the monastery are highlighted in front of the desolate space of the desert that represents the marginal character of the female spirituality in the Middle Ages.
