PAYA, Tomás y WILLIAMS, Verónica I.. POLITICAL ORGANIZATIONIN THE HIGH QUEBRADAS OF THE MIDDLE CALCHAQUÍ VALLEY DURING THE DESARROLLOS REGIONALES PERIOD (900-1450 AD). Relaciones [online]. 2023, vol.48, suppl.2, pp.7-7. ISSN 0325-2221.
The high quebradas of the middle Calchaquí valley (Molinos and Angastaco basins, province of Salta) were key spaces in the structuring of the local social landscape during the Desarrollos Regionales Period (900-1450AD), hosting the main settlement andproduction centers in a context of emergence of territorial jurisdictions. It is then relevant to know the logics by which the political organization of these populations was structured, for which we carried out a comparative analysis of the results of investigations carried out in the region from different lines of archaeological evidence. The settlementpattern, the architecture, the spatial organization, the funerary treatments, the pottery and metallurgicalproduction, the agricultural infrastructure and the rupestrian expressions suggest forms of political organization from corporate, communal or heterarchic logics, in contrast to the expectations ofcentralizedpoliticalpowerand institutionalized socioeconomic stratification traditionally proposed for the PDR under the chiefdom model.
