Abstract. Perfectionist's interpersonal difficulties: theoretical considerations about the social disconnection model. The Perfectionist Social Disconnection Model brings a theoretical framework suggesting an explanation of the associations between maladaptive perfectionism and mental health problems such as depression, eating disorders, hazardous drinking, and anxiety. According to this model, maladaptive perfectionists experience subjective and objective social disconnection throughout their own relational styles that involves interpersonal hostility and sensitivity. In turn, the social disconnection leads to increased levels of psychological vulnerability. Recent studies have shown that this framework is applicable in different cultures and ethnicities, and it must be considered for future investigations. The present paper describes maladaptive perfectionists and their personal difficulties, and introduces a theoretical description of the social disconnection model. Future research lines are discussed.
