Resumen

MARIANA, Heredia  y  BEGONA, Cueto. Conditional cash transfers effects on adults labor participation. The case of AUH in Santa Fe, Argentina. SaberEs [online]. 2020, vol.12, n.2, pp.109-127. ISSN 1852-4418.

In 2009 Argentina introduced the program Asignación Universal por Hijo para la Protección Social (AUH), which extends family allowances to the most vulnerable segments of the uncovered population by the family allowance scheme. There are several studies on conditional income transfers indicating that they are successful in Latin America in reducing poverty and improving income distribution. However, there is concern about some potential unwanted effects of conditional cash transfers on adults working activity in the target households. The objective of this article is to evaluate the effect of income transfer programs on adult decisions related to the labor market. The methodology applied is the differences in differences estimator combined with propensity score matching. The microdata used is the annual survey carried out by the Social Observatory of the Litoral National University on Santa Fe city. The results suggest that AUH does not generated disincentives on short- and medium-term adults working activity in the target households.

Palabras clave : Labor participation; Cash transfers; Evaluation.
