PENICHE CAMPS, Salvador. The water, energy and food nexus. Notes from the perspective of the ecological economy in the mexican case. SaberEs [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.1, pp.57-72. ISSN 1852-4418.
Decisions related to the location of water and energy resources for food production, as a rule, are made based on criteria derived from economic efficiency. It´s argued that the former has led to the deterioration of water reserves, negative effects on the energy supply system, and an increase in food insecurity, among other problems. In this context, the policy of the nexus between water, energy, and food ("Nexus Policy"), promoted by the Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLAC), aims to achieve socio-environmental balance in the use of resources in the context of current pollution and scarcity. In the article that is presented, the subject is approached, from the perspective of ecological economics and explain, as in the case of Mexican agriculture, the policy of the Nexus, would contribute, if applied, to the acceleration in the exploitation of natural resources.
