Resumen

NATALIA, Krüger,; LUCIA, Erramuspe,  y  MARIA, Mendoza Gutierrez, Ana. Links between gender, work and social vulnerability in Bahia Blanca, Argentina. SaberEs [online]. 2021, vol.13, n.1, pp.91-114. ISSN 1852-4418.

This article studies the existing gender inequalities in the workplace in peripheral areas of the city of Bahía Blanca, Argentina. The analysis intersects i) gender gaps in labour participation and access to own tickets and their associated benefits, and ii) inequalities in access opportunities to decent living conditions and decent work between the different social sectors. For this, labour and socioeconomic indicators are estimated using primary information provided by the research-extension projects of the Department of Economics (UNS) and IIESS (UNS-CONICET). The results underscore the need to recognize gender as an essential category in the analysis of the world of work, which is ignored by orthodox economic theories and is particularly relevant in contexts of great social vulnerability. Research and interventions aimed at the sustainable development of intermediate cities should not ignore this factor that, in addition to representing a source of inequity, could contribute to the formation of poverty traps.

Palabras clave : Gender gaps; Labor market; Poverty traps.
