Resumen

AMIGO, Claudia. El imaginario gallego en la novela histórica argentina. Aportes a la desarticulación del estereotipo. Olivar [online]. 2016, vol.17, n.25, e005. ISSN 1852-4478.

In Argentinian literature there is a strong deep-rooted stereotype about Galician inmigrants, who are considered ignorant, rough, dirty, ugly, indiscreet and stubborn. Lectores Galegos en Bos Aires, a group of readers of Galician texts, frequently discuss how this stereotype is still built and supported. Precisely, the program of readings for 2014 entitled “Que ves cando nos ves?”, includes two historical novels whose main characters are Galician: La pasión de los nómades, by Maria Rosa Lojo (1994) and El héroe que vino a buscarme by Gloria Pampillo (2010). The first one remakes in the twentieth century the trip to the territories of ranqueles made a hundred years before by the writer and militar Lucio V. Mansilla. The second novel describes some episodes of the British Invasions in Buenos Aires in 1806 and in 1807 and the first years of the emancipation of the provinces of Río de la Plata from the kingdom of Spain.

Morgana’s daughter and Merlin’s niece, the beautiful fairy Rosaura dos Carballos and the courageous soldier Bernardo Panpillo are the leading characters of these books. Our goal is to describe its characteristics as Galicians to demonstrate how they contribute to deconstruct the negative stereotype.
