Resumen
MONTEAGUDO, Henrique. Castelao en Buenos Aires, 1940-1950. Olivar [online]. 2016, vol.17, n.25, e006. ISSN 1852-4478.
It is the purpose of the present contribution to offer a synthetic overview of the trajectory of D. Alfonso Rodriguez Castelao (Rianxo, 1886- Buenos Aires, 1950) during the 1940-1950 decade. It was a “porteño” stage, because almost all of it was spent in Buenos Aires. This decade was an important stage not only in his biography but also in his projection into the transoceanic Galicia (the "ideal Galicia") that he was instrumental in building, and at the same time, forging his image as a key figure in it. We consider his performance in terms of political action under the Spanish exile and in close relationship with the Basque and Catalan nationalists, with particular attention to its projection in the Galician community of Rio de la Plata -composed by emigrants and exiles with its internal tensions - and his complex relationships with the Galicianist resistance inside Spain. We discuss the dilemmas between his artistic and political dimensions, in which is embodied the opposition he establishes between Tradition and History of a people with its own cultural personality that he claimed as a nation. Finally, we will check the discursive development of these tensions in his most important speech, "Alba de Gloria" (“The dawn of Glory”).
