Resumen

PALLO, María Cecilia; CRIADO, Axel Iván  y  CIRIGLIANO, Natalia Andrea. Methodological proposal for the study of variability in the use of lithic sources (Pali Aike volcanic field, Argentine Patagonia). Rev. Mus. Antropol. [online]. 2023, vol.16, n.2, pp.39-50.  Epub 31-Ago-2023. ISSN 1852-060X.  http://dx.doi.org/10.31048/1852.4826.v16.n2.40045.

Potrok Aike dark fine-grained rock (RGFO PKA, for its acronym in Spanish) was the most common lithic raw material used by hunter-gatherers to make artifacts in the Pali Aike volcanic field (CVPA, for its acronym in Spanish), southern Patagonia. Despite the regional importance of the resource, its natural distribution is mainly restricted to the interfluve Gallegos-Chico, making it a key sector to understand the strategies for obtaining and using the raw material. The goal of this paper is to evaluate the existence of variations in the direct procurement of RGFO PKA in a portion of the interfluve. To do so, we present a methodological proposal that includes network analysis and other statistical methods in order to ranking lithic sources in the study area based on variations in travel times and the probability of success in obtaining the rock. The results achieved allow us to establish variable implications in technological decisions and land-use modes for the different sectors of the study area. This proposal has the potential to be replicated on larger scales and for other lithic raw materials.
