In our region, digital technologies have ceased to be an innovation, becoming tools of daily use in archaeology, both for research and for heritage management and communication. In the literature, there are “techno-utopian” starting points that support a positive view of their impact. Specifically for heritage communication and enhancement, it is assumed that new ways of interaction and perception with the potential to influence the asymmetries inherent in the production of narratives about the past can be achieved using media and digital technologies. Sometimes, these approaches do not contemplate the reflection on the possibilities and limitations in the implementation of the digital. To contribute to this debate, without losing sight of the Latin American framework, this paper recovers Argentine experiences in development and reflects on how the use of digital technologies and the public dimension of archaeological heritage are in tension. We argue about the importance of focusing the discussion on the conditions of accessibility, knowledge and uses of the virtual. We discuss how trajectories, territorial bases and communication strategies are configured in the projects promoted. In addition, we address the extent to which this has an impact on participation of both actors and institutions.
