Resumen
PRINA, AR et al. Fuentes primarias de variabilidad genética en plantas cultivadas: Mutaciones Inducidas y Genes Mutadores. BAG, J. basic appl. genet. [online]. 2011, vol.22, n.1. ISSN 1852-6233.
The main goals achieved since the 1990s, by the working group in "Primary Sources of Genetic Variability in Crop Plants" are described. Initially, the activities in this subject were limited to: basic research in barley mutants, consulting services in this topic to the Rice Breeding Program and two technical assistance agreements in barley and sunflower. Among the main scientific contributions it stands out the discovery of the chloroplast mutator gene of barley and several mutants originated by this gene. Over the years, the interactions with the Institutional Plant Breeding Programs increased considerably to a total of 11, being the most important the one for rice which gave rise to herbicide tolerant mutants of widespread national and interna-tional diffusion.
