DALMASSO, Antonio; CRUCES, Emanuel y CAPRIO, Sebastian. Response of Baccharis spartioides (Hook. & Arn. ex DC) J. Rémy to cut. Multequina [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.1, pp.23-28. ISSN 1852-7329.
Baccharis spartioides, known as pichana, has a wide distribution in the saline soils of the country, from the northeast Santa Cruz to Jujuy. Its foliage is used by public services to produce sweeps. The objective was to evaluate the answer of this species under two intensities of cut. The study was carried out in the Llancanelo Reserve, Malargüe, Mendoza. We worked with randomly chosen plants with 2 treatments: cut at ground level and at 10 cm height, and with 20 repetitions. Productivity (dry weight), survival and plant height were evaluated. ANOVA and mean comparison was applied by Tukey’s test (α=0.05). There were statistically significant differences between treatments. Plants cut at 10 cm height showed greater height and weight with respect to ground level cut. Mortality was only 5% in the ground level treatment. This species possesses rhizomes and gemmiferous roots allowing regrowth under intense cuts, emitting new shoots.
