VALENZUELA, Agustina; GOMEZ, Fabricio y ACOSTA, Juan Carlos. First record of the asian clam ( Corbicula fluminea Müller, 1774) in central-west of Argentina. Multequina [online]. 2022, vol.31, n.1, pp.37-43. ISSN 1852-7329.
The continental aquatic systems constitute environments of relevance for the human being due to the different benefits and services that they provide to society. The introduction of exotic species constitutes a threat to native fauna due to competition for food resources, excessive predation or genetic alterations. The Asian clam Corbicula fluminea has spread throughout the Americas, Africa and Europe, encompassing a great diversity of freshwater ecosystems. This species has various associated problems and its report is essential since it provides useful information to the authorities to develop management strategies that allow evaluating and mitigating the impact on the populations of native aquatic organisms.
