Resumen

GATTI RICCARDI, Giuseppe. ¿Mater semper certa est? Samples of disruptive maternity, omissions and domains in the narrative of Fernanda Trías, Giovanna Rivero and María José Ferrada. Cuad. CILHA [online]. 2022, vol.23, n.2, pp.9-33.  Epub 05-Ene-2023. ISSN 1852-9615.  http://dx.doi.org/10.48162/rev.34.049.

We propose an analysis of three contemporary fictional texts by Spanish-American narrators that construct female figures capable of questioning with their attitudes and vital choices both the stereotypical feminine and maternal models, as well as the maintenance of the compact tradition of the nuclear family. Can we consider the dismantling of the traditional assignments of maternal roles in the family described in the novels as a rupture respect to the canonical development of the feminine ego within the framework of mother-child ties? Or, on the other hand, is it a subjective process that concerns individuality and is not related with current social and historical processes? We will try to see how the selected texts oscillate between an extreme characterized by the mother’s government of son/daughter’s body as a practice that intervenes at the anatomical level (making the body weak and docile), and another extreme in which maternal omissions and absences offer the progeny the opportunity to articulate a discourse of “subjective self-constitution”, detached from the inter-generational relational framework.

Palabras clave : Fernanda Trías; Giovanna Rivero; María José Ferrada; Alternative maternity; Isolated existence.
