This article gathers the philosophical reflections of Enrique Molina Garmendia, particularly his early writings gathered in the book Filosofía americana of 1913. In addition to exposing reflections that show important distancing from certain positivist ideas still dominant at the time, the author gives some notions about an adequate philosophy for the region and the role it should play in society; having for this purpose a particular Chilean and Latin American approach.
