The expansion of the limits of the field of Design can be understood as the result of two type of factors. On the one hand, the advance can be due to the appearance of new technologies, forms of work, social actors, and new needs that emerge. On the other hand, the expansion in Design is also a consequence of the recognition that some common practices, and craftmanship production, can indeed be labeled as Design, in much broader way. In this paper, we describe two examples of the dynamics that can develop between Expert Design and Diffuse Design. We argue that by the observation and undestanding of such dynamics, lessons can be learned which aim to reconsider the usual academic teaching practices and techniques, as well as to critically assess the current model of sustainability applied in the clothing industry.
