Resumen

MONTES GALBAN, Eloy; INSAURRALDE, Juan Ariel  y  CUADRA, Dante Edin. Evolution and future sceneries of deforestation in the southwest of the Chaco province, Argentina. Estudios Socioterritoriales [online]. 2017, vol.22. ISSN 1853-4392.

This paper was aimed to make a spatiotemporal analysis of deforestation in the southwest of the Chaco province from 1989 to the present, with projections until 2030. To this goal, there were employed Landsat 5 TM satellite imagery; processed in previous researches employing the supervised classification method in ENVI software, to obtain the land cover changes in the period from 1989 to 2010.Through IDRISI Geographic Information System, methods of reclassifies and overlays were applied, as well as, spatial simulations performed with Markov chains and cellular automata. The results show that the forest area reduced more than 70 % through the evaluated period. The simulation models of land cover changes for 2020 and 2030 indicate that if it continues the current trend, the loss of forest area could arrive at 74,64 % and 76,28 % respectively.
