GOMEZ, Luis Alfonso Escudero y FERNANDEZ, María de la Paloma Martínez. Host communities facing touristic development: A comparative study of San Martin de los Andes (argentinian Patagonia) and Toledo (Spain). Estudios Socioterritoriales [online]. 2021, vol.30, pp.94-94. ISSN 1853-4392. http://dx.doi.org/10.37838/unicen/est.30-307.
Growing expansion of tourism is fostering an increasing pressure over host urban communities. The principal aim of this study is the comparison of residents’ perception in two locations which are distant in terms of geography and type of touristic choice: San Martín de los Andes, in the Argentinian Patagonia, and Toledo, in Spain. The methodology here used is an analysis based on a questionnaire, besides statistical techniques. The results show that both communities have positive perceptions of touristic development with generally great agreement among the opinions registered. Furthermore, several specific problems have been detected, such waste pollution in the Argentinian case, or the ‘musealisation’ of Toledo’s historical centre. The following lines add data to better understand tourism as a phenomenon and should be of the interest of planners and administrators of certain areas.
